Cooking Instructions

For caramelized onions:

Melt butter and olive oil in large skillet over medium-low heat. Add onions, salt and pepper to skillet and toss to coat. Cook, stirring often, for 20-30 minutes until softened and browned. Stir in Marsala wine and cook for 2 additional minutes; remove from heat. Keep warm. (If tailgating, place onions in thermos or other insulated container to keep warm.)


For cheeseburger:

Warm Texas toast in oven according to package directions; cool. Store in storage bag or container.

Meanwhile, if using, make au jus according to package directions; Keep warm. (If tailgating, store in thermos to keep warm. Pack burger patties and cheeses in chilled cooler until ready to grill.)

Heat grill. Grill patties 2 minutes per side; top each burger with 2 slices of each different type of cheese. Warm Texas toast on grill. When cheese is melted, remove patties and toast from grill. Place 1 patty on 1 piece of Texas toast. Top with large spoonful of caramelized onions. Repeat for 2 additional layers, ending with remaining onions on top. Close burgers with remaining 2 toast slices. Serve with dipping sauce, if desired.
