Gouda and Hot Honey Macaroni Grilled Cheese

Cooking Instructions

For macaroni and cheese:

Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.

Melt 3 tablespoons butter in Dutch oven over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour until smooth.  Gradually whisk in milk, salt, pepper and cayenne. Bring to boil; cook and whisk for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat to low; gradually stir in 2 1/2 cups gouda until melted. Remove from the heat. Stir in macaroni.

Spread macaroni mixture onto greased 15 x 10-inch baking pan (about 1/2-inch thick). Cool slightly. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.


For grilled macaroni and cheese sandwiches:

Combine honey and hot pepper sauce in small bowl.

Cut macaroni and cheese into six rectangles, matching the size of the bread slices. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons gouda on six bread slices. Layer each with macaroni and cheese. Drizzle with honey mixture. Top with remaining gouda and bread slices. Spread the outsides of the sandwiches with remaining butter.

Toast sandwiches, covered, in a skillet or on a griddle over medium heat for 3 minutes. Flip sandwiches; cook, uncovered, 3-4 minutes longer or until bread is golden brown and macaroni and cheese is heated through. Serve with remaining honey mixture.
