In medium bowl, mix berries with 1/4 cup sugar and balsamic vinegar. Set aside until berries become juicy. If you wish, the juice may be drained off and heated to thicken. Add cooled, thickened juice back to berries.

In medium bowl, mix quark and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar.

In small bowl, whip cream until soft peaks form. Fold into quark. (If quark is very stiff, stir 1 or 2 tablespoons of additional fluid cream into the mixture before folding in the whipped cream.) Chiffonade basil leaves. Fold basil into berries.

For small parfaits, spoon 2 1/2 tablespoons berries into each of 6 dessert glasses, using slotted spoon. Top with 2 1/2 tablespoons whipped cream mousse mixture. Repeat layers once. Sprinkle with nuts, if using.
