Servings: 4
Ingredients:
1 to 1-1/4 pounds top quality ground beef chuck
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
8 thin slices Wisconsin Sharp Cheddar cheese (4 ounces)
4 split hamburger buns, warmed in oven
Optional toppings: sliced onion, sliced dill pickles, sliced tomato, lettuce, mustard, ketchup
Cooking Directions:
In large bowl, gently mix ground beef, salt and pepper. Shape into four (4-inch) patties, about 1/2 inch thick. Heat a heavy skillet, preferably cast iron, over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
Place patties in skillet and cook 5 to 7 minutes. Using spatula, turn. Top each patty with 2 Cheddar cheese slices, overlapping. Cook 4 to 5 minutes for medium doneness and until cheese is melted.
Place each patty on a warm bun bottom. Add desired toppings and bun top.
