A.M.P.I. plants can trace their origins as far back as 1891, when professor Theophilus L. Haecker of the University of Minnesota's Dairy School first introduced the concept of cooperative creameries to farmers. A.M.P.I. is heavily involved in manufactured dairy products, cheese, butter, and milk powders. Associated Milk Producers, Inc., is one of the largest cheese manufacturers in the United States, and we supply many of the nation's cheese packers with bulk cheese in either block or barrel form. Our own packaging and processing plant is in Portage, Wisconsin. A.M.P.I.'s diversity in production and distribution is an asset to our many customers; we supply the foodservice industry trade and food processors.

Master Cheesemakers At A.M.P.I.

Mark Frederixon
Mark Frederixon
A 32-year veteran of Associated Milk Producers, Inc. (AMPI), Mark manages the company's Blair, Wisconsin plant. But while much of his work is now devoted to management, he stays involved in the day-to-day making of cheddar cheese, the variety for which he's earned certification as a Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker. "Being able to include the Master's Mark® on AMPI Cheddar, he says, doesn't just reflect on me, but on our plant." And knowing he's a Master only adds to the great personal satisfaction he gets from making cheese for nearly three decades.
