Burnett Dairy Cooperative was first established in 1896 with the Wood River Creamery. Quickly we became famous for our award-winning butter, and our cheesemaking operation began in 1966—still supported by the area dairy producers. In 1988, Burnett Dairy's Cheese Factory won the distinction of World Champion Cheesemaker with an entry of our now famous String Cheese. We currently produce 85,000 lbs. of cheese per day (31 million pounds per year). The growth of our plant, retail store location, and outside sales all reinforce our pride in making quality cheese and supporting our local farming community. We enjoy a community-oriented work environment located in the beauty of Northwestern Wisconsin, and we now offer many types of Fancy Brand, Burnett and Wood River Artisan cheeses. Bruce joined the ranks of Wisconsin Master Cheesemakers in 2006, earning certifications in colby and cheddar. He has added mozzarella and Monterey jack to his Master's varieties. With Burnett Dairy for more than 35 years, Willis gets great satisfaction from making cheese and especially enjoys experimenting with cultures and enzymes. "The Master's program gives you great insight on both the art and science of cheesemaking," he says. "And having the Master's Mark® on our labels is a sign of quality that our customers appreciate."
