LaGrander's Hillside Dairy, Inc., has been owned and operated by the LaGrander family since 1960 and is now in its 3rd generation of cheesemakers. Our specialties include award winning Colby, Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Colby-Jack, and Pepper Jack cheeses, as well as fresh and frozen cheese curds for retail and wholesale. We produce the cheeses in the traditional longhorn and mini longhorn styles as well as 40lb. blocks under the supervision of two Master Cheesemakers. LaGrander's Hillside Dairy is committed to producing superior cheese products that exceed all quality standards and customer expectations.

Randy LaGrander
Randy may be the only Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker to receive his cheesemaking license before getting his driver's license—at the age of 15. Randy worked alongside his parents in a family-owned cheese factory since 1960. After getting his license, he became a full-time employee, practicing the art of manufacturing colby, Monterey jack and cheddar cheeses. He is now certified as a Master in these three varieties. Randy says the knowledge he has gained through the program helped him develop and improve the specialty cheeses he crafts today as the owner of LaGrander's Hillside Dairy.

Having grown up in the city, Dan admits that he could never have imagined that cheesemaking would become his life's work. But a move in the early 1990s to rural Stanley, Wis., led him to find his true calling. Farming or cheesemaking were the main employment opportunities there at that time, so he took a job at a cheese plant. Within a few years, he earned his cheesemaking license and in 2000 joined LaGrander's Hillside Dairy. He graduated the Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker® program in 2013 with certifications in Monterey jack and colby and looks forward to repeating the program again. "I'm always interested in furthering my education," he says. "You can just go through the motions every day, but to actually learn so much and start to understand the processes and what goes on behind the scenes really interests me."
