Muenster Mac and Cheese

This simple mac and cheese with a small ingredient list was inspired by a plate of cheese and crackers. Mild tasting muenster is a wonderful melting cheese that would appeal to just about everyone.

Cooking Instructions

Heat oven to 400°F.

Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente; drain. Transfer to a large bowl; toss with 4 tablespoons butter until melted.

Meanwhile, bring cream to a gentle boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low; gradually stir in muenster until melted. Pour cheese sauce over pasta; stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Spoon pasta mixture into greased 2 1/2-quart baking dish. Melt remaining butter; toss with cracker crumbs. Sprinkle crumbs over pasta mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until sauce is bubbly and cracker topping is golden brown.


Recipe Tip:
Any brand of Wisconsin muenster cheese can be used.

Wisconsin muenster usually has a light orange rind. This is made by washing the cheese in a liquid annatto, which is a natural coloring with no flavor.
