Italian Sausage and Pasta Bake with Shredded Italian Cheeses

Servings: 6


8 ounces ziti or mostaccioli pasta, cooked, drained
1 pound mild or hot Italian sausage, casings removed, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 bell peppers (1 red, 1 green), cut into 1-inch pieces
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil or 2 teaspoons dried basil
2 cups (8 ounces) Wisconsin Italian blend cheese, shredded

Cooking Directions:

In a skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until browned on all sides; drain. Add onion, garlic and peppers. Cook for 5 minutes, or until sausage is cooked through and vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring occasionally. Add tomatoes and tomato paste; mix well. Stir in pasta and basil; transfer to 13x9-inch baking dish. Cover with foil; bake at 375°F for 20 minutes. Uncover; sprinkle cheese evenly over casserole. Bake at 375°F for 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
