1 1/3 cups butter1 cup packed brown sugar1 cup granulated sugar2 eggs2 teaspoons vanilla2 1/4 cups flour2/3 cup cocoa3/4 teaspoon baking soda1/4 teaspoon salt2 packages (4 ounces each) sweet baking chocolate, coarsely chopped1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Beat butter and sugars at medium speed with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Gradually add combined dry ingredients; mix well. Stir in chocolate and nuts. Drop rounded measuring tablespoonfuls of dough, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350°F for 12 to 14 minutes or until set. Let stand 2 minutes; remove to cooling rack.
