In 1964, Gilberto Villaseñor and Ignacio Villaseñor accomplished a longstanding dream: to produce a fresh cheese that reflected the traditions of their native Mexico. The company they founded, V&V Supremo Foods, is now an industry leader in the fastest growing food category in both the retail and food service categories: premium, authentic Mexican-style food products. It is also the oldest Hispanic family-run cheese manufacturer in the United States. V&V Supremo Oaxaca and Chihuahua(r) queso quesadilla are manufactured in their Wisconsin cheese plant, Chula Vista Cheese Company. Today, 50+ years after our founding, we continue with our commitment to quality, consistency and tradition that our founders handed down to us through state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and progressive business practices. Jim Meives
Jim took a year off from his college studies and discovered a passion for cheesemaking and a career. In 1978, he began working for Ryser Bros. of Wisconsin and then became a partner at Valley View Cheese. In 1985, Meives together with V&V Supremo Foods, Inc. bought the Chula Vista Cheese Company and began refining the recipe for Chihuahua® cheese. Jim enrolled in the Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker® program to learn the latest technologies and developments in cheesemaking. He has earned Master Cheesemaker certifications for queso blanco and brick cheese varieties.
