Established in 1918, Bass Lake Cheese Factory was one of the first specialty cheese factories producing hand-made artisan cheeses from different milk sources: cows and goats. Six-time Master Cheesemaker Scott Erickson creates many varied types and styles of cheese to choose from including some "Bass Lake" originals such as Butter Jack with Cinnamon. In our retail store, we now also are serving homemade soups, sandwiches, pizza, hand-battered deep fried cheese curds, grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers featuring our fine cheeses along with a good assortment of wines, beers, and mixed drinks for you to enjoy during your visit. We also serve Breakfast On Sundays from 9 am to 12 pm. We have Educational displays with dairy antiques, along with a viewing window, cheesemaking video, and friendly knowledgeable staff to sample and answer questions about our cheese. The factory is located out in the country just north of Hudson, Wisconsin and just east of Stillwater, Minnesota. Our retail store is open year-round, except during major holidays, M-T 9-6, Fri. & Sat. 9-8 pm, and Sun. 9-6. Please call for hours during the months of January and April.

Scott Erickson
Scott is a versatile, creative cheesemaker who found his passion for the craft while in college in the 1980s, thanks to a part-time job at a cheese plant. In 1991, he and his wife Julie purchased Bass Lake Cheese Factory and he's since dedicated himself to continually improving his knowledge and skills. He is a four-time graduate of the Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker® program (1998, 2001, 2004, 2012) and holds Master certifications for cheddar, chèvre, colby, juustolepia, Monterey jack and muenster.
